DAW (Digital Audio Workstation)

Software for recording, editing, and producing music.

A DAW is the central hub of modern music production. It provides a timeline-based environment for recording audio and MIDI, arranging songs, mixing tracks, and applying effects. Major DAWs include Ableton Live (known for live performance and electronic music), FL Studio (popular in hip-hop and EDM), Logic Pro (comprehensive Apple-only DAW), Pro Tools (industry standard for recording studios), and Bitwig (modular and innovative). DAWs host VST/AU plugins for synthesis and effects, provide automation for parameter changes over time, and export final mixes. Choosing a DAW is largely about workflow preference — they can all produce professional results.
